The return of the Guhtta Poro

One month after our meeting with the Guhtta Poro who were preparing to take off for the Lapland Trophy 2023, we find them victorious, proud and still full of snowflakes. This partnership with AMEG Group is an opportunity to look back on these four days of crazy, sporting and frosty experience.

A place on the podium and 2 500 euros for Les Étoiles Filantes

As a reminder, Sandy, Marie, Roxane and Virginie took the name of Guhtta Poro (six reindeers in Finnish) to participate in the women's raid in Lapland: three days of sporting challenges in an extreme environment, exclusively for women. Roxane and Sandy finished ^21st. As for Virginie and Marie, they came in^3rd place and won a check for 500 euros.

Because, beyond a competition, this challenge is a real human and solidarity adventure. Participating in the Lapland Trophy was also an opportunity for the Guhtta Poro to support the association Les Étoiles Filantes, which fights for children and their families suffering from a glioma infiltrating the brain stem. A total of 2,500 euros were collected.

A start on the starting blocks

Friday, March 10, 2023. Take off. After a 3-hour flight to Helsinki, a change of plane and a 1-hour flight to Rovaniemi, the magic happens as soon as you arrive at the airport. 60 sleighs guided by reindeers welcome the participants and transport them to their hotel. Second gift in the evening: our Guhtta Poro see an aurora borealis for the first time in their lives.

Day 1 : run and snowshoes

No more wonderment. We concentrate. Saturday is the beginning of the challenge: 12 km of running and snowshoeing. The track is hardly groomed, the Guhtta Poro, in pairs, sink into the powder, the ankles must resist. Virginie and Marie finished^3rd, Sandy and Roxane ^20th. The first results predict the final victory.

Day 2 : run and bike

Each pair shares a bike and organizes itself as it wishes. While one runs, the other pedals. On the Guhtta Poro side, Marie and Virginie alternate, while Sandy runs the 12 km and Roxane stays in the saddle. The ground is complicated for the bike, the falls are numerous and the bruises are felt. Roxane derails. But at the Lapland Trophy, one must not forget that the credo is solidarity! Sandy is of course there to lend a hand, and other women "competitors" stop and help them.

Day 3: Ice Mad and cross-country skiing

This is the coldest day. The temperatures are really worthy of the polar circle, it is - 18°C that morning, felt - 24°C... Race, net, cross-country skiing, obstacles, the last stage does not miss difficulties, nor surprises: the track is too frozen for the Ice Mad, the girls have to go down on their buttocks! The stage is difficult, but the environment is grandiose: the white nature is bewitching.

The Guhtta Poro did not give up. In the evening, it's the prize giving and the farewell dinner. If the girls are delighted to have won a third position, we must also admit that in the women's raid, the time is not the main thing. What counts here is the surpassing of oneself and solidarity, two values shared by AMEG Group.
