Laura Tarantola: Logbook of a post-Olympic adventurer
After the Olympics, I decided to take a break. Four months of adventure between the West Indies and South America to breathe, refocus... and climb other summits, differently. The sport goes on, but with a new lease of life.

Hello to the entire AMEG GROUP team,
I hope you're well!
I wanted to give you some news about these first few months, which have been far from ordinary for me. After ten years of top-level sport, rich in emotions, successes but also constant demands, I felt the need to take a break after the Paris Olympic Games. Too often, sportsmen and women are seen as machines, capable of one effort after another without ever faltering. But above all, we are human beings, with our limits, our emotions and our needs. Knowing how to listen to ourselves is also the key to long-term performance.
A break to breathe easier
With this in mind, I decided to take a four-month trip with my partner to discover the West Indies and South America. What motivated me in this project? The desire to take a breather, to find myself again, and to let myself be carried away by a more personal project that's also very important to me. Since December 27, we've travelled through Guadeloupe, Dominica, Martinique, Costa Rica and Colombia, and we're currently in Peru, before continuing on to Bolivia. This break allows me to recharge my batteries, rest my body and mind, and explore new cultures and ways of seeing the world. It's an invaluable experience. This trip is much more than an adventure, it's a breath of fresh air, a precious interlude to rest my body and mind, while enriching me with incredible landscapes, stories and people. Taking care of myself also means investing in the future, and I'm convinced that this trip will enable me to return with renewed energy.
Heading for the unknown (and 5000 metres!)
What next? I'll see where this path takes me. This post-Olympic year is all about lightness and letting go. Quite difficult for me, who likes to plan and control everything, it's a great exercise after all those years of meticulous planning. It just goes to show that you never stop learning about yourself 😉.
Knowing me, you can imagine that sport is never far away. We do a lot of hiking and jogging, and we're about to set off on an autonomous trek of several days, in the mountains of Peru at an altitude of over 5000m. I can't hide the fact that I also love the adrenalin rush of "I can't wait, I hope it's going to work out, but at the same time I can't control it in advance", the mountains, the altitude, the effort and several nights' autonomy. It's a long way from the boat! It's great to find new challenges and do sport in a different way!
A sunny thought from the Andes
I'm grateful to be able to live this experience and to have people around me who support me in all my adventures and understand the importance of this balance. This is why I would like to sincerely thank you, by supporting me in all the moments that punctuate the life of a top-level sportswoman, you show once again that at Ameg Group, valuing the human behind the machine is also important, and it's magical to feel it.
Unfortunately, I was unable to attend your event on April 17. But it's only a postponement! I'll be delighted to come and see you when I get back to exchange and share with you!
In the meantime, I send you a little warmth from Peru and wish you all a beautiful day.
See you soon to draw the next part together...
